Among the 20 protocols of IMS technology, the well-being of the total environment is most important since it applies in every situation you encounter while supervising a group of children. Following this protocol, you must constantly adjust your attention and behavior to engage the problem situation that is most likely to have the greatest impact on all the children in the group. From this “total environment” perspective, it calls you to give your attention to the situation that has the highest priority at that time. The basic priority levels are: (1) physical harm to children, (2) physical harm to objects, and (3) fantasy detachment from reality
In practice, following this well-being protocol means that while you are engaged in resolving any one particular scenario, you must constantly look up and around the environment to see what else is happening that might require your attention elsewhere at that time. Â Â So, for example, if while you are resolving a scenario of children engaged in a low-priority fantasy misbehavior, you look up to see several children threaten some physical violence, you quickly disengage from the low-priority (3) scenario to give your attention to the higher level (1) priority situation at that time.
