This technique is the teacher doing something with a child that involves some element of physical contact with child, such as holding a pencil with the child’s hand to guide in making shapes or letters. This is particularly useful with very young children who lack coordination, control and precise skill in their hand and finger movements. Using this technique generally involves giving  clear direction safe word phrases, such as “take my hand” or “Let’s…” as in “Let’s do this together”. Â
