Character Teaching Gets Government Support in Ecuador

In November, 2009, IMS received a letter of support for its Character Teaching (CT) project from the Ministry of Education in Ecuador. Lee Havis, project creator, views this government support as highly significant and promising for the eventual participation of various private foundations and agencies involved with funding programs designed to eradicate poverty through education.

In Ecuador, Carlos Vallejo was recently appointed to the local CT board to help organize plans for an initial consultation visit, which will include an IMS workshop training for prospective project staff. Carlos holds a Ph.D. in psychological rehabilitation and special education from Universidad Central del Ecuador. Since 1997, he has served as director or coordinator in a number of different programs to improve social conditions and education for the low-income population of Ecuador.
